Figment VR on Kickstarter
The Fathom team is excited to share that a Kickstarter campaign for Figment VR, the world’s first virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) viewer built into a phone case, launched on November 17! With more than 600 backers and thousands of dollars above its goal, the excitement continues to build. In just the first week, Figment VR was making headlines on The Verge, Engadget and Mashable, to name a few. The campaign is the brainchild of Quantum Bakery, a company that creates innovative accessories for smart phones. Fathom was introduced to the team earlier this year during the concept phase. The company leveraged Fathom’s resources and technologies to accelerate their product development timeline—resulting in 500+ parts and 25+ iterations in just weeks.
According to the Kickstarter page, the Quantum Bakery team states, Designed down to the smallest detail, every aspect of Figment has gone through many iterations in order to arrive at the current design. We’ve invested time and resources to design and iterate through various industrial design concepts through partnership with Fathom in Oakland, CA.
Following the advanced prototype fabrication and low-volume production at Fathom, the team worked with PCH Lime Lab next on the manufacturing and assembly process. By working with these industry experts, the team feels confident we can turn Figment into an amazing, final product.
Figment VR is not the first Kickstarter campaign to utilize the Fathom production center. Our team has worked with many well-known campaigns including the Coolest Cooler, Siva Cycle Atom, Nomiku, Up Dog Toys and many others (if only we could tell you about all of the projects our team works on). Each of these very different concepts were developed through Fathom’s unique blend of additive technologies with proven manufacturing methods. From start-ups to world-wide industry leaders, companies are going from concept to prototype to manufacturing in a way that wasn’t previously possible.
