Fathom Celebrates National Manufacturing Day on Friday, October 3rd3D Printing Expert and Inc. 5000 Honoree Takes Part in Day of Recognition for Manufacturing Industry
Fathom will open its production center doors in Oakland and Seattle on Friday for informational tours in support of National Manufacturing Day, a growing grassroots movement of manufacturers dedicated to overcoming the shared challenges facing manufacturers today.
This year marks the third time companies around the nation will celebrate National Manufacturing Day, an effort spearheaded by the National Institute of Manufacturing, the National Manufacturers Association, Manufacturing Institute and the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association International.
Fathom participated for the first time last year, drawing engineers and designers interested in learning more about advancements in prototype fabrication and low volume production by way of advanced manufacturing techniques such as 3D printing [ read last year’s coverage ].

Manufacturing Day gives manufacturers an opportunity to raise and address these issues by simply exhibiting what they do to visitors curious about manufacturing. On the first Friday in October of every year, hundreds of manufacturers across the nation participate in Manufacturing Day by hosting open houses, public tours, career workshops and other events.
Manufacturing Day co-producers said that the most pressing issue is a gap in skilled labor. The organization claims that 80% of manufacturers cannot find the skilled workers they need.
Through this collective effort on October 3rd, Manufacturing Day hopes to highlight manufacturing’s present-day reality and encourages job seekers to develop the skills they need to qualify for long-term careers in this secure and growing sector of the economy [ source ].
